School History

Living Waters Preschool was founded in 1993 as a ministry of Switzerland Community Church under the leadership of Pastor Wes Slough. Ms. Judy Decker and Ms. Nancy Cardy determined a need for a Christian preschool in Northwest St. Johns County, and with the blessing of the church started the preschool. The school opened with 4 children and one teacher. Since that time it has grown to a staff of 26 with 183 children enrolled. From the beginning, the goal has been to provide a program that touches all aspects of a child’s growth while respecting and supporting parents in raising their children. Our mission is to connect young children and their families to God through a high quality weekday early education program.

Over the last twenty-five years, our community has grown rapidly and Living Waters Preschool has grown to meet the need. In 2005, the year of the program’s inception, we elected to participate in the VPK program for four-year-olds offered by the State of Florida. In 2006, we expanded our space by utilizing the church education building. This addition gave us three classrooms, two resource rooms and office space, in addition to the four classrooms, storage, and office space in our original building. In 2007, a Kindergarten class was added. With two schools within one mile of LWP offering private elementary school (including Kindergarten), we decided to at least temporarily discontinue the Kindergarten class as of the 2015-16 school year. In place of the Kindergarten, we offer another VPK class. In 2013 and again in 2015, we increased our hours of operation to accommodate more families by offering early arrival, late afternoon, and summer care. We have recently updated our facilities to provide increased security. Finally, for the 2018 school year, we added a further classroom in our VPK wing. In the future, we anticipate further facility improvements and increased programming as we continue to minister to the families in Northwest St. Johns County.
